#1: Define Your Goals and Audience
Many of our clients have the goal of growing their Instagram and making more money. This is a very common goal, but it isn’t always very effective. You must know how to monetize your Instagram before you set out with the goal of making more money. We recommend going a different route. For example, you can start to grow your audience, then go in for the sale, or, you can start releasing great content to grow your audience over time. No matter what, you must focus on growing your desired audience in our to get more leads and achieve your goals.
When you want to grow your audience, you need to decide who your audience is. To do this, you need to identify your desired customer and think about what they want out of your business. If you are struggling to do this, we have a branding bundle that will help you identify your target audience to make your marketing message more effective.
#2: Update Your Bio
You want to make sure your bio on Instagram reflects who you are as a brand, what your business does, and is attractive to your target audience. For this reason, we have come up with three rules you must follow for your bio. It should be super short, super clear, and it should define your brand. One way to follow all of these rules is to use a “I help…” statement. This can look like: “I help married couples get clear on their expectations for their marriage so their relationship can be more successful.” Any statement that defines what you do, who you help, and what your business is for is perfect for your Instagram bio.
#3: Have a Good Link in Your Bio
What many people do on their business Instagram is add their homepage for their link. This may seem like the best thing to do because then your prospect can browse your entire website, but it may cause them to lose interest before they contact you. It is much more effective to send them to a sales landing page with a call-to-action, or use a Linktree or a Linkin.bio to show your prospects multiple links that they can choose from. You don’t want to allow your clients to get confused or uninterested in your services in the time it takes for them to find your services or contact page.
#4: Use a Great Profile Picture
When you don’t have a great profile picture, people are less likely to follow you. We highly recommend using a photo of you looking at the camera so Instagram users can see who you are and feel more comfortable following you. If you are a business, you can also use your logo for your profile picture, as this will help establish your brand identity. When using your business logo, make sure it is very clear and easily readable so your page looks very high quality. Additionally, set your profile picture to be the same across all of your social media platforms so your pages are easily identifiable to the platform’s users.
#5: Set Up a Theme
You may have already heard of this tactic, but setting up a theme for your Instagram is making sure your feed is very visually appealing. The first perception of your brand for prospects will be what they see on your feed. So, if you have overly colorful photos that are cropped weird or are blurry, your prospect’s will likely have a bad first impression of your brand. You want to make sure all of your photos are of very high quality, have similar colors or filters, and look beautiful next to each other. We highly recommend using Lightroom to keep your photos cohesive and looking great.
#6: Post Real Content
One of the biggest downfalls people have on Instagram is that they are not connecting with their audience. You may be posting super helpful and knowledgeable content, but your audience may still have no idea who you are. So, post pictures of you, your team, your office, pictures of any team parties you are having, or anything else that feels more personal. You want people to recognize you and say, “I know that person, they are the one who does [your service]!” We recommend using your captions to tell your story and explain what your goals are with your business. Try to relate to your target audience, rather than posting random facts about your industry or random photos.
#7: Schedule Your Content in Advance
If you have ever watched my videos or read my blog posts, you will know that I highly recommend scheduling your content. This is because it is a huge time saver and it will help you stay consistent by posting every day. Scheduling your content is also a great way to make sure your photos are cohesive and match your desired theme. #8: Start Engaging Every Day
Social media is a social place. You need to go on the profiles of the people you want to work with, like their pictures, and leave meaningful comments. Do your best to interact and develop a relationship with the people who match your customer persona. This will help people recognize you, grow an interest in your services, and potentially become your customer one day.
#9: Use Instagram Ads to Get More Reach
This tactic is not a requirement, but it is a great way to get in front of more people. If you are not organically getting in front of as many people, using ads will help your profile get more views very quickly. Setting up ads can sound like it will be very expensive, but the truth is, it doesn’t have to be! You can set the budget for your ads to be whatever you want, whether that be $3 or $100 per day. Whatever you feel comfortable spending, you can set up your ads to never spend a penny more.
#10: Utilize Instagram’s Other Features
Oftentimes, people just post on Instagram and shut off the app. For one, hashtags are very important for reaching more people. We recommend using 30 hashtags on every single post so you can reach people who are searching for you. Another great feature on Instagram are stories, which are little updates that only stay on your profile for a day. This is the perfect opportunity to connect with your audience and post pictures of your everyday life. You can post a story of you and some coworkers getting coffee, or take a picture of your team in a meeting. Other features are IG TV and going live, where you can share longer content than you would with just posting a video on Instagram. Whatever you decide to share on Instagram, make sure it will help people connect and relate to your business.
I hope this blog post was helpful for you in growing your Instagram audience! If you follow the 10 tips above, you are sure to grow your audience and connect with more people.
